Transform Tulsa
A campaign to explore the removal of I-244 in Tulsa, focusing on community-driven urban design alternatives and addressing displacement concerns.
Status: Finished
The Transform Tulsa campaign convened in a working session at CNU 30 to share and discuss the proposal for the removal of I-244 in Tulsa. The workshops were designed to inform future public discourse and feasibility studies in favor of the community's proposal to return the network impeded by I-244 into a fine-grained grid of walkable, multi-modal streets. At issue was whether or not the removal is the best option, and how to avoid displacement and gentrification for local residents. Following the workshop, the campaign applied for and was awarded funding from the Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program to review urban design alternatives to the interstate through Greenwood Avenue.
